These tools are my go to tools when creating my sourdough bread.

Dutch Oven
I use this Pioneer Woman Dutch Oven or Crock Pot Dutch Oven. However, I know a lot of people who love this Lodge Combo Cooker, which is also on my wish list. The dutch oven helps to keep the steam in the oven and an even temperature, helping with the oven spring.
Banneton Basket
I like using the 7 inch banneton bakes. Banneton baskets help the dough keep it’s shape and not spread out as it rises during the second ferment.
Bench Scraper
This is similar to mine. I like to use the bench scraper to divide my dough and lift the dough from the counter to the banneton basket after I shape the loaf. It also comes in handy if your dough is a little sticky when shaping.
Bread Lame
Ever wonder how bakers get that beautiful ear on their sourdough loaf? A lot of it has to do with the angle that is used when scoring the dough. I use this style of bread lame and the curve really helps to get the proper angle.
Parchment Paper
I like to use unbleached when I remember, but most of the time I pick it up at Costco when I’m there. I use parchment paper to move dough from the banneton to the dutch oven.
Jars
I personally love these WECK jars. I use this small one for my everyday starter and this medium one for a larger feed for my bread. They have a nice wide mouth making it easy to get in and stir your starter and the lid fits loosely on the top so that I don’t have to worry about too much pressure building. You can also use regular mason jars, but the WECK ones just look so cute on the counter.
Dough Whisk
This danish dough whisk makes mixing up dough a breeze! I have had great luck using it to mix up my dough without over mixing! It’s my go to tool plus helps make less of a mess on my hands.
There you have it! All of my favorite sourdough tools. While they aren’t necessary to create a loaf of bread, but they definitely help the process. Ready to start making sourdough? Check out my Beginner’s Sourdough Bread Recipe.
