This rhubarb simple syrup has a beautiful color and has the perfect balance of tart rhubarb flavor and sweet syrup.
Rhubarb season is one of my favorite seasons! There is something about the tartness of the rhubarb paired with something sweet that balances everything out. This rhubarb simple syrup is no exception either!
Rhubarb Simple Syrup Ingredients
- Rhubarb – this will flavor the syrup and give it the beautiful red color.
- Sugar – granulated sugar is best.
- Water – to dissolve the sugar.
How to Make Rhubarb Simple Syrup
- In a medium saucepan add rhubarb, water, and sugar and bring to a boil.
- Lower heat to medium-low and simmer until the mixture has slightly thickened, about 20 minutes.
- Pour the mixture into a fine mesh strainer over a bowl to separate the liquid. Lightly pressing on the mixture to extract all the liquid.
- Carefully transfer the liquid into a container and store in the refrigerator for up to 2 weeks.
Simple Syrup Variations
- Strawberry-Rhubarb – Add 1 cups of strawberries and 3 cups of rhubarb.
- Rhubarb-Basil – Add a handful of chopped basil to the mixture.
- Rhubarb-Thyme – Add a few sprigs of thyme to the mixture.
