These four quick and simple “mom buns” are a great way to upgrade your typical messy bun.
When it comes to the default “mom bun” we can get into a major rut of a big ol’ messy bun flopped right on top of the head. The problem is that it typically makes you not feel as put together. So, I put together 4 simple ways to upgrade your mom bun. Each of these styles still keeps your hair out of your face and off of your neck (two things that are a must with littles running around!). Let’s check them out!
Twisted Low Bun
This bun gives off a little more elegant look. You can choose a middle or side part, but the key thing here is the little half twist in the back! It adds a little something extra to the bun AND helps give it security so that your hair isn’t constantly falling out. View a tutorial here.
Double Dutch Buns
This [double] bun is a little more complex, but definitely not too hard for the beginner! Start off with a middle part and dutch braid each side. The key to a nice full looking braid (even if you don’t have much hair) is to “pancake” the braid. This just means take the edges and pull them out to fluff the braid up. Tie each braid at the nape of your neck and tie the remaining hair in a little messy bun. I find that the braids hold best if I secure them with a bobby pin. View a tutorial here.
Side Dutch Braid
If the double dutch braid intimidates you a bit, this side braid might be more your pace! The side braid really helps because you are able to see the braid the entire time and do not have to change hand positions halfway through the braid to transition to the back of your head. You can complete this look with either a low bun or a high bun, either one will give you a great finished look! View a tutorial here.
Easy Milkmaid Braids
This version of milkmaid braids are so easy to do, but looks so cute! Instead of braiding starting at the top of you head and braiding all the way around your head, this version braids the bottom half of your hair and fold it up to mimic a dutch braid. View a tutorial here.
