St. Patrick’s Day Sensory Bin

March 16, 2021 · In: Mom Life

FacebookTweetPin

We love doing sensory bins with my (almost) 3 year old, so I decided to start doing a themed bin each month. I can’t wait to see Brody’s expression each month, because he loved this one so much. For March, I decided to do none other than a Saint Patrick’s day theme.

I started with the base of green kinetic sand, and while it is definitely not the easiest thing to clean up, it was really fun to play with. I then added in some pipe cleaners, gold coins, and some pom poms. Creating bins does not have to be hard! Start with a base, and then add in different times to scoop and into and play with.

Some of my favorite bases to start with are colored rice, corn kernels, kinetic sand, and beans. I love to have different sized cups and spoons for scooping as well.

What do you think my themed bin for April should be?

Ingredients
1 cup water
1/2 cup sourdough starter
¼ cup honey
2 tablespoon molasses
2 cup white bread flour
1 ¾ cup whole wheat flour
2 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoon unsalted butter melted
oats for dusting top
Instructions
In a medium bowl, mix water, honey, molasses, melted butter and sourdough starter.
Add in bread flour, whole wheat flour, salt, and cocoa powder. Mix until a smooth dough has formed.
Transfer dough to a clean bowl, cover it and let it rise until it doubles. It will take from 8 to 10 hours. Remember to leave in a warm spot.
After the first rise divide dough into 4 pieces. Using your hands or a rolling pin, open each piece in a rectangle. Roll into a cylinder and pinch to close. Roll the tops of the loaves in oats.
Place in a lined baking sheet or in a mini loaf pan, cover and let rise for 2 more hours or until loaves almost double, and look puffy and light.
Preheat oven to 350°F. Uncover loaves and bake them for 30 to 35 minutes.
Let loaves cool for 15 minutes before slicing.
