Chubby Girl Approved Leggings | Best Running Leggings for Girls with a Belly

March 18, 2025 · In: Mom Life

As a bigger girl with a belly, I find it very hard to find leggings that stay put when working out. And as it turns out so does my community! So I’m on a mission to find my favorite pair of leggings that stay put while running with a belly.

A few stats about me that could be helpful to know: I am 5’4″, typically wear a size 14 (order a large in leggings), and have a very short torso. Each of these leggings will be reviewed after running for my chosen workout.

This post contains affiliate links. I earn a small commission when you choose to use them, I really appreciate!

I will continuously update this post as I add in more leggings that I review with my thoughts, but feel free to add any leggings you want me to test out in the comments!

Episode 1 – Fabletics Anywhere Motion365+ High-Waisted Legging

  • First Impressions: the leggings felt very nice. I loved how the fabric felt on. They had a nice compression, without feeling too restrictive. They hit a few inches above my belly button.
  • Fabric Content: 73% Recycled Polyester/27% Spandex
  • After Running Thoughts: Stayed up great! The leggings did roll down a little bit, but nothing too annoying.
  • BONUS: no front seam on the leggings!

Overall Thoughts: Great leggings, Will reach for them when running!

Episode 2 – Colorfulkoala Women’s Buttery Soft High Waisted Yoga Pants

  • First Impressions: the leggings felt very nice. I loved how the fabric felt on. They hit right at my belly button and did not have high hopes of them staying up great.
  • Fabric Content: 80% Nylon, 20% Spandex
  • After Running Thoughts: Did not stay up at all! They were slipping with just walking and within 15 seconds of running had fallen below my belly.

Overall Thoughts: Super soft legging, horrible for staying up while running.

Episode 3 – Sunzel Leggings with High Waist Tummy Control

  • First Impressions: I loved how the fabric felt on. Super high rise and hit way above my belly button. These felt very similar to my Lululemon Align leggings.
  • Fabric Content: 70% Nylon and 30% Elastane
  • After Running Thoughts: Fantastic leggings, stayed up even with my phone.
  • BONUS: Side pocket for phone

Overall Thoughts: Fantastic leggings! Probably my favorite that I have tried so far and will be reaching for these often! Great price point and I loved that they stayed up even with my phone in my pocket.

Episode 4 – Define PowerHold® High-Waisted Legging

  • First Impressions: VERY compressive, felt like they would stay up, but restriction felt restricted
  • Fabric Content: 88% Polyester, 12% Elastane
  • After Running Thoughts: While the leggings did stay up, they felt SUPER compressive and I didn’t feel like I had free movement, if I had sized up it may have been better but did not love them for running.
  • BONUS: You get a super great suck me in feel with these

Overall Thoughts: They did great at staying up, however the super compression was not my favorite for running in and I felt like I didn’t have the greatest movement range in them.

Episode 5 – Love and Fit SoftLuxe Stay Put Leggings

  • First Impressions: the fabric on these leggings feels more of a cotton material than the lululemon type material, they have silicone grips on inside waistband to help keep the leggings from falling down, and the no front seam is always a win.
  • Fabric Content: 87% Polyester, 13% Spandex
  • After Running Thoughts: Fantastic leggings, stayed up even with my phone in the pocket. The material is on the thickerside but not uncomfortable.
  • BONUS: Side pocket for phone and no front seam

Overall Thoughts: Fantastic leggings! Really love the compression on them, no front seam, and the fact that the silicone grips prevented the leggings from falling down!

    This is such a relatable post! I’m short too and know the struggle of finding leggings that stay put. Your review of the Fabletics ones sounds promising. Have you tried any with pockets? That’d be a game-changer for me when I run. Can’t wait to see more of your findings!

100,000 of you. I’m honestly still trying to wrap my head around that.

What started as me just sharing what I was making for my family, little moments, and pieces of my life has turned into this incredible community, and that’s because of YOU.

The comments, the messages, the times you’ve made my recipes in your own kitchens… it all means more than I can put into words.

Thank you for being here, for supporting me, and for growing alongside me. I don’t take a single one of you for granted.

We’re just getting started 🤍

Comment GARDEN and I’ll send you all the details to your inbox.

The best thing about these garden beds is that they can be made to any dimension that you want! I created four 4x8 beds, two 3x8 beds, and two 2x3 beds using the exact same method each time!

Materials (for ONE 4x8 bed)
* (4) 2x8 boards, cut to 8 ft long
* (4) 2x8 boards, cut to 4 ft long
* (24) 3” exterior wood screws
* (4) 2x4 boards, cut to 14” long

Instructions
1. Cut Your Boards (if needed)
Cut your boards to length before assembling. We had (4) 12’ boards, we cut into an 8’ board and 4’ board. However, you can also buy (6) 8’ boards and then cut 2 of them in half.

2. Drill Pilot Holes (optional)
On each 8’ board measure ¾” in from each end and Drill 2 pilot holes per end, spaced about 2–3” from the top and bottom
This helps prevent the wood from splitting when you add screws.

3. Build the First Layer (Bottom Frame)
Lay out:
 * (2) 8 ft boards (long sides)
 * (2) 4 ft boards (short sides)
Form a rectangle with the short boards sitting inside the long boards. Then attach the boards using 3” screws into the pilot holes you created in the previous step.

4. Stack the Second Layer
Repeat process by placing the second set of boards directly on top of the first frame, lining up edges carefully

5. Add Corner Supports
Place the 2x4 board inside each corner
These should sit flush with the bottom and sit an inch below the top.
Screw through the outside boards into the 2x4 board once in the top 2x8 board and once in the bottom 2x8 board.

 Pro Tips
Use untreated cedar for best longevity, however I used fir for a more cost effective version. These may only last me 5 years, BUT the cost of cedar deterred me from going that route.

Avoid pressure-treated wood unless it’s labeled safe for gardens

Use a garden safe stain on the interior before filling to help with board longevity.
