Fall Farm Essentials | Kid Edition

Fall on the farm means a change in weather, clothes and activities. Check out some of our must haves for the kids.

fall and winter kid essentials on the farm

SHOP THE POST

We are scheduled for our first frost next week, which means fall is officially here (even though technically it was here a month ago). Almost everything I’m showing you today is a repeat purchase for us. We own it in multiple sizes and have used it for years. Bonus, you don’t have to live on a farm to love any of these items.

Shoes

Insulated Boots – These boots have been in rotation for years. I keep purchasing the next larger size for Brody each year. He wears then non-stop from about October through March and they still look great at the end of each year.

Baby Insulated Boots – These boots are also insulated, but I prefer them for little feet. I love the velcro piece on the back making getting little feet in properly much easier. Plus you can secure them a little more snuggly at the top vs other shoes.

Clothes

Overalls – With fall comes mud. Without these overalls I would be changing clothes all day everyday. They also include a little extra protection from the weather. I prefer them for around the farm over other a regular snow suit because they don’t tear as easily. Bonus, I like to size up in them so that I can layer warmer clothes in the winter.

Insulated Coat – Again this is a repeat purchase for us. I almost always size up in coats for the kids so that they can wear layers underneath, so I’m going to be grabbing the Children’s size for Brody. Again it is a tougher fabric than typical winter coats, so I don’t worry about them ripping when playing out on the farm.

Hats

Beanie – We love this beanie for everyday use. The kids will wear them almost daily during the colder months. Keeping their ears covered helps keep them warm.

Stormy Kromer – These hats stay on great, and the little ear flaps are perfect when littles need a tiny bit extra protection from the cold.

Gloves

Waterproof Gloves – These are great for multiple reasons. They are waterproof, so that when playing in the snow their fingers don’t get wet and cold. PLUS since they don’t have individual fingers they are so much easier to get onto little hands.

Light Weight Gloves – These are great for short periods out time or when Brody complains about the mitten style gloves. They are thin enough that getting them on little fingers isn’t as hard as with thick gloves.

Hot Hands – Brody is obsessed with these during the winter. They help to keep his hands warm without having to wear gloves. They are perfect when he is in and out of the tractor with dad when feeding cows. I also love them for the same purpose. I personally hate wearing gloves and these really help.

Comment HERBS for all the planter.

My @greenstalkgarden herb garden might be my favorite thing in the garden right now.

There’s something so special about stepping outside and grabbing fresh herbs for dinner. Basil, dill, rosemary, mint, all the herbs my heart desires.

Comment GRILL for both the recipes!

Grill girl summer is officially underway 🔥☀️

Turns out grilling is a whole lot less intimidating when you realize it’s basically just an outdoor oven with better flavor. Thanks @traegergrills.

Tri-tip for dinner, mixed berry cobbler for dessert, and not heating up the kitchen in the process? That feels like a win to me.

Also, respectfully, we are no longer leaving the grilling to the boys this summer.

Comment CAKE for all the recipe details.

This one is for those who don’t really like cake.

Homemade fresh mint chip ice cream, a fudgy cookie layer, and cookies & cream ice cream all stacked into one very perfect ice cream cake.

One of my favorite things about making desserts from scratch is getting to create flavor combinations you can’t always find at the store.

And honestly, that’s the fun of homemade, making exactly what you wish existed.
