Homemade graham crackers are the perfect after school snack. Made with whole wheat flour, honey, brown sugar, and butter these crackers are so much better than the store bought ones.
One of my children’s favorite snacks are graham crackers. Brody loves them dipped in milk and Weston loves them with a smear of peanut butter. Plus, they are on the healthier side of the snack spectrum. You also can’t forget about the OG graham cracker companion marshmallows and chocolate for s’mores.

Along with snacks, you can use these graham crackers for a graham cracker crust in your desserts.
I hadn’t ever thought about making graham crackers before, but Brody was begging for some graham crackers for a snack and we didn’t have any. Since we live 30 minutes from the grocery store, I wasn’t going to run to the store to grabs some.
In reality, if you look at the ingredient list on graham crackers it’s just flour, sugar, oil, baking soda and salt. I swapped a few of those and added some others to make a delicious cracker. I loved that I was able to up the honey flavor and swap oil for butter (because there’s nothing better than butter).
You can also control the texture of the crackers. I love to slightly under bake the crackers for a chewier texture, vs the normal crunchy cracker.
So how do you make homemade graham crackers?
- In a bowl combine sugar and butter. Cream together until light and fluffy. I like to use a stand mixer.
- Add in remaining ingredients and mix until combined.
- Split the dough in half and press onto parchment paper. Refrigerate for at least an hour. The dough will be sticky, so chilling it will help with this.
- Remove from the fridge and roll out into a rough rectangle.
- Gently score the dough into squares or rectangles and prick the dough with a fork. You could also cut out the crackers like cookies and bake them separately.
- Bake at 350 F for 13-16 minutes.
- Once removed from the oven cut along the score lines.
- Let cool and enjoy!
