These make ahead mashed potatoes are my favorite! They are super creamy with butter, cream cheese, and heavy cream and can be made up the day before to eliminate one less thing you have to make the day of! Even better, you can add them to my favorite casserole crock pot (affiliate link) and not use up any oven space the day of!
Make Ahead Mashed Potatoes
These make ahead mashed potatoes are the perfect side to bring to your holiday dinner!
Equipment
Ingredients
- 5 lbs potatoes I like Yukon gold or russet
- 4 oz cream cheese
- 3/4 cup butter
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp pepper
Instructions
- * Peel and cut the potatoes into cubes.
- * Place potatoes into a pot of water and boil for 20-30 minutes or until you can easily poke a fork in them.
- * Drain the potatoes and place back in the pot or a large bowl.
- * Mash the potatoes to allow some of the steam to release, then add in 1/2 cup butter, cream cheese, and heavy cream.
- * Mash potatoes until desired consistency has been reached. If you prefer a super smooth consistency use a hand mixer to beat the potatoes.
- * Add in salt, garlic powder, and pepper. Mix to combine.
- * Store in refrigerator until day off.
OVEN METHOD
- * Place potatoes in a baking dish and top with remaining butter, cut into cubes.
- * Bake at 350 for 30-40 minutes or until warm throughout.
CROCKPOT METHOD
- * Place potatoes into crockpot and top with remaining butter, cut into cubes.
- * Cook on high for 2-3 hours or until warm throughout.
