Prep Time 2 hours
Cook Time 30 minutes
Servings: 12
Course: Side Dish

Ingredients

Dough
  • 2 ¼ teaspoon yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • ¼ cup milk warmed
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 4 tablespoon butter
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 cups milk
Cheesy Tree
  • 8 mozzarella sticks cut into quarters
  • ½ cup parmesan cheese shredded
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 4 tablespoon butter melted

Instructions

Make the Dough
  1. Combine ¼ cup warmed milk with yeast and sugar. Set aside until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl (I use my stand mixer) combine remaining ingredients, except milk.
  3. Add in milk and yeast mixture and ¾ cups milk. Mix together, adding in remaining milk if needed.
  4. Knead mixture for 7-10 minutes. Shape into a ball, place back into bowl, and let rise for an hour, until doubled.
  5. Make the Cheesy Tree
  6. Place dough onto counter and divide into 30 sections (roughly 1 oz each).
  7. Flatten each dough piece out and place one quarter piece of a mozzarella stick in the middle. Gently shape into a round ball.
  8. Take each ball and arrange into a tree shape. I did 5 layers in a triangle shape. Placed one ball on the very top for the star (you can also use a cookie cutter to make a star shape) and one ball at the bottom for the trunk. Cover and let rise for about another hour.
  9. Combine butter and garlic and brush onto tree. Top with shredded mozzarella and dried parsley.
  10. Bake at 350 for 25-30 minutes.
  11. Serve with marinara sauce and enjoy!

  1. Another article used this picture for "top holiday treat ideas" or something and didn't even have the recipe or link to it so I went on an insane search to find this. So glad I did. A little iffy about the dough (I have texture issues and usually use premade dough) but I'm so excited I'll give it a try.
