Bone Broth Hot Cocoa may sound like a weird combination, but I promise that it is delicious and has the added bonus of being gut friendly and 29 grams of protein in a single cup! Paired with my healthy homemade maple marshmallows you have the best treat for a cold winter day.

Ingredients

  • Bone Broth – I use the chicken bone broth from kettle and fire, but your favorite bone broth is great too.
  • Milk – I use 2% cows milk, but you can swap for a milk alternative also.
  • Cocoa Powder – A good quality cocoa powder will really make this shine. Don’t use the Hershey’s cocoa powder if you want a really good chocolate flavor. I really love the Ghirardelli Majestic Cocoa Powder, but you can only purchase it in 2 lb can. If you don’t want to buy cocoa in bulk I suggest a Dutch Processed Cocoa Powder.
  • Maple Syrup – We personally love the flavor that maple syrup adds to our cocoa, add as much as you want for sweetness.
  • Collagen – My go to is Vital Protein, but add in your favorite for a boost in protein and other health benefits.
  • Colostrum – Recently started adding Colostrum to my routine for gut health and an immune boost. I really love the Cowboy Colostrum brand as it has more grams per serving! Use code: THEFARMSTYLE for a discount at checkout.

How to Make Bone Broth Hot Chocolate

  • Heat milk and broth over medium heat until desired temperature.
  • Add in cocoa powder, maple syrup, collagen and colostrum. Whisk to combine.
  • That’s it! Easy peasy!

Ingredients
1 cup water
1/2 cup sourdough starter
¼ cup honey
2 tablespoon molasses
2 cup white bread flour
1 ¾ cup whole wheat flour
2 tablespoon cocoa powder
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoon unsalted butter melted
oats for dusting top
Instructions
In a medium bowl, mix water, honey, molasses, melted butter and sourdough starter.
Add in bread flour, whole wheat flour, salt, and cocoa powder. Mix until a smooth dough has formed.
Transfer dough to a clean bowl, cover it and let it rise until it doubles. It will take from 8 to 10 hours. Remember to leave in a warm spot.
After the first rise divide dough into 4 pieces. Using your hands or a rolling pin, open each piece in a rectangle. Roll into a cylinder and pinch to close. Roll the tops of the loaves in oats.
Place in a lined baking sheet or in a mini loaf pan, cover and let rise for 2 more hours or until loaves almost double, and look puffy and light.
Preheat oven to 350°F. Uncover loaves and bake them for 30 to 35 minutes.
Let loaves cool for 15 minutes before slicing.
