French Onion Beef Skillet is a savory and hearty dinner that combines the rich flavors of French onion soup with ground beef and pasta.

French Onion Beef Skillet

We love French onion anything, so I’m always looking for ways to add it into the dinner rotation. This French Onion Beef Skillet takes this one pan meal to the next level with the caramelized onions.

Ingredients

  • Butter: you could also swap for your favorite cooking oil
  • Onion: I prefer to use yellow onion, but you could use white
  • Ground Beef: we prefer a little extra beef in our casseroles, so always opt for 1 1/2 lbs instead of the traditional 1 lb. You can easily just use 1 lb.
  • Seasonings: garlic, salt, pepper, Worcestershire all help to add flavor to the dish.
  • Wine: white wine helps to add some depth of flavor when deglazing the pan. If you don’t have any wine on hand just swap in the 1/2 cup for extra beef broth.
  • Beef Broth: Adds liquid to cook the pasta and extra beefy flavor.
  • Pasta: I used rotini pasta, but add in your favorite!
  • Cheese: we love to use gruyere if we are feeling fancy, but more often than not I’m using whatever white cheese I have on hand. Provolone, Swiss, or even mozzarella cheese works!

How to Make French Onion Beef Skillet

  • In a large skillet add 2 tablespoons of butter. Once melted, add the onions, salt and pepper, and allow them to cook down and deeply caramelize for about 15 to 20 minutes, stirring frequently, until the onions start to caramelize.
  • Add in ground beef and cook until no longer pink.
  • Add in the garlic, wine, and Worcestershire, allow it to bubble up and reduce for about 30 seconds. Then pour in the beef stock and whisk or vigorously stir to blend in and combine until smooth.
  • Add in your pasta of choice and bring the mixture to a simmer. Cover and allow to cook for 8-10 minutes. Stirring occasionally.
  • Once the pasta has cooked, topped with shredded cheese. Cover with lid to allow the cheese to melt or if using a cast iron skillet place in oven and broil for a few minutes to melt the cheese.
  • Enjoy!

Tomato season is officially underway 🍅🌱

I finally got all of my tomato plants in the ground and filled the beds in with some of my favorite companion plants too! Not only do they help maximize space, but they also help attract pollinators, improve soil health, and keep pests away naturally.

This year I’m planting:
✨ Basil – helps improve flavor + keeps pests away
✨ Marigolds – a garden must for pest control
✨ Onions – great companions for tomatoes
✨ Zinnias - not only are they pretty to look at, but they are great for attracting pollinators

One of my favorite gardening tips is to never leave bare soil if you can help it. Filling in around your tomatoes makes the garden more productive AND prettier.

Also, something I didn’t talk about is mulching my plants. I use grass clippings BEFORE my husband has done any kind of spraying on the lawn. This helps with moisture retention and controlling weeds!

Now we wait for those summer tomato sandwiches 🍅

#ad | These Cowboy Burgers are a MUST this grilling season, and the ground beef I grabbed from my local @KrogerCo Family of Stores made them perfect for feeding a crowd.

Juicy, smoky, loaded with all the good stuff… aka the kind of burger that disappears the second it hits the table.

Save this for your next summertime cookout + drop “BURGER” 🍔 if you can’t wait to make these!
