This jam jar whiskey cocktail is a fun, zero waste recipe using leftover jam. Refreshing, simple, and perfect for summer sipping.

If you’re looking for a fun and refreshing way to enjoy whiskey while cutting down on kitchen waste, this Jam Jar Whiskey Cocktail is it! Using the last spoonfuls of jam left in the jar, you can shake up a delicious drink in minutes. Sweet, tangy, and bubbly, this cocktail is perfect for summer evenings, backyard parties, or when you just want something simple but a little different.

This recipe is not only budget-friendly and creative—it’s also sustainable. Instead of tossing that nearly empty jam jar, turn it into your new favorite cocktail glass.

Why You’ll Love This Jam Jar Whiskey Cocktail

  • Zero Waste: Uses up the last bits of jam.
  • Quick & Easy: Just 4 ingredients and 5 minutes.
  • Customizable: Works with any flavor of jam you have on hand.
  • Refreshing: A bubbly twist on a classic whiskey highball.

Ingredient Breakdown

  • Jam (1–2 tbsp left in the jar): The base of this cocktail. Berry jams like raspberry, strawberry, or blackberry pair beautifully with whiskey, but you can experiment with peach, apricot, or even fig jam for a richer flavor.
  • Whiskey (1 shot): We love a Canadian whiskey like Pendleton or Crown Royal. Bourbon or rye also work for balance, but use what you love. If you prefer a lighter taste, try Irish whiskey.
  • Lime juice (squeeze): Brightens the drink and balances the sweetness of the jam. Lemon juice works as a substitute.
  • Sparkling water: Adds fizz and makes this cocktail light and refreshing. Club soda or flavored sparkling water are both great options.
  • Ice: Keeps the drink chilled and crisp.

Instructions

  1. Fill a mostly empty jam jar (with about 1–2 tbsp jam left) with ice.
  2. Add whiskey and a squeeze of lime juice.
  3. Top with sparkling water.
  4. Stir or swirl gently in the jar to mix the jam with the liquid.
  5. Sip and enjoy straight from the jar for a fun, rustic cocktail experience.

Serving Suggestions

  • Flavor variations: Try strawberry jam for a sweeter cocktail, blackberry for a tart kick, or peach jam for a southern-inspired twist.
  • Make it a spritz: Swap sparkling water for sparkling wine or prosecco.
  • Batch it up: Mix several jam jars ahead of time with different jam flavors for a unique cocktail tasting flight.

Tips for Success

  1. Use good jam: The quality of your jam really matters here. A fruit-heavy jam will give you a richer, fresher flavor.
  2. Adjust sweetness: If your jam is extra sweet, balance with a bit more lime juice.
  3. Don’t overfill: Leave room in the jar for the sparkling water to fizz up without overflowing.
  4. Try flavored sparkling water: Lemon or berry sparkling water adds an extra layer of flavor.

Closing Thoughts

This Jam Jar Whiskey Cocktail is proof that creative cocktails don’t have to be complicated. It’s sustainable, refreshing, and endlessly adaptable to whatever jam you have on hand. Next time you’re down to the last spoonfuls of jam, don’t toss the jar—turn it into a drink!

One of my favorite things about making things homemade is getting to create something you wish existed in the world.

I wanted the nostalgic crunch of those strawberry cheesecake ice cream bars… but with raspberry and an actual cheesecake twist. So naturally I had to make it happen.

And honestly? This might be one of those recipes that makes you stop after the first bite and think, where has this been my whole life?

Sweet, creamy, crunchy, raspberry perfection.

Would you try raspberry over strawberry? 👇

Episode 9 of the garden series and the garden is finally starting to fill in 🌱✨

This week I planted:🌶️ Peppers with onions, cilantro and marigolds🫘 Beans alongside potatoes and marigolds🥒 Cucumbers with dill, carrots, and radishes🌸 PLUS all the flowers — zinnias, dahlias, snapdragons, strawflower, celosia, and feverfew

I love companion planting because every plant has a purpose. Some help attract pollinators, some deter pests, and some simply help maximize space in the garden beds. And honestly… mixing veggies and flowers together just makes the garden feel magical. 🌼🐝

The vision is finally starting to come together and I cannot wait to see everything explode with growth over the next few weeks.

Which plant are you most excited to watch grow this season? 👇

Tomato season is officially underway 🍅🌱

I finally got all of my tomato plants in the ground and filled the beds in with some of my favorite companion plants too! Not only do they help maximize space, but they also help attract pollinators, improve soil health, and keep pests away naturally.

This year I’m planting:
✨ Basil – helps improve flavor + keeps pests away
✨ Marigolds – a garden must for pest control
✨ Onions – great companions for tomatoes
✨ Zinnias - not only are they pretty to look at, but they are great for attracting pollinators

One of my favorite gardening tips is to never leave bare soil if you can help it. Filling in around your tomatoes makes the garden more productive AND prettier.

Also, something I didn’t talk about is mulching my plants. I use grass clippings BEFORE my husband has done any kind of spraying on the lawn. This helps with moisture retention and controlling weeds!

Now we wait for those summer tomato sandwiches 🍅
